NOURISH was founded on the intent to support the creative endeavor of others, those who are primarily local. But too, to speak to why we create and collect. To bridge the gap between person and object. The why before the what. Through material and the intimacy of making, we express and excavate our experiences of being human. Resolving and uplifting by way of beauty and the creative mind. This is why we create and collect. Our universal language, without words. And this, is why NOURISH exists.

It is my belief that all creative endeavors exist on the same horizontal line as Art. Thus all should be curated together: furniture, painting, jewelry, ceramics, books, etc. Each of these categories has the same function, to uplift, inform and otherwise bring joy, through the depths of beauty and the creative mind.

The creative arenas are difficult to manage on one’s own. It is also difficult to bridge the gap between creator and the general public. It is through the community of creators, collectors, and educators that the light is shown upon the benefits of living with and appreciating art, be it a chair or a painting.

I believe strongly in what the creative mind can do. If we can destroy inadvertently, we can create intently, a better now and future. Through architecture, art, and design we create possibility. This is my hope and intent with NOURISH.

We create and collect as a means of sense-making, in our world of complexities. To uplift and bring joy, and bask in the depths of beauty. Through the creative mind, we thrive, to be better and to do better. Ideas are just energy, if they are not put into action. On a daily bases, innovation is being created that enhances our ways of living, though we hear very little about it. Change happens, not in the light of what’s possible, but in the shadows, steadfastly moving forward by days and inches. It is through creative innovation that the light is broadened, shedding light and creating growth. We are creative beings, through endeavor, we build the new and bury the old in history.

If we are to survive our own undoing, we must first acknowledge our hand in the unraveling, filling the hole that is now carved out. The created object is a documentation of life experience, how we see ourselves in the world, and the world itself. It is a mirror and window, tool for resolution and salve for healing. This is why we create and collect, to better understand our being human, soothing and inspiring through the creative endeavor and beauty. It is within the built environment and the created object we nestle and thrive, creating joy and possibility through our ways of living and personal experience.

Energy And Beauty

Beauty has a depth that speaks profoundly to our human experience: the perfectly imperfect, awe, wonder, and joy. It is the reflection of who we are, our honest and purest selves. We are born from beauty and energy, an ever-changing state of flux, from birth to death and back again. Energy and beauty have no limits.

We are a mirror to the universe, black in our unknown depths, and expansive in our energy that sometimes consumes and explodes. This is our being human, as we mimic our surroundings while expressing what’s within, evolving and burning with energy, as we slowly burn out. This is where we come from and perhaps where we go, again. We are of starlight, the beauty of blackness that has no edge.

In meditation, we are encouraged to go within, into the beauty and blackness of the original self, before social dogma intervened. Within the conscious self, we discover the edgeless human, being, the boundless void of internal and external life. This is who we are, where we’ve come from, and where we eventually return.

It is within the built environment that life is structured, where possibility hovers waiting to be seen, despite our belief system otherwise. Nature, beauty, and the creative mind inspire better living, through experience and action. This is where we are seen, heard, and reflected. Who we are, where we are, and where we wish to go.

The ceramic work of Kathryn Robinson-Millen is influenced by architecture and nature, inspiring the way we live and even think. Her work asks us to engage through the botanical arranging of her sculpted vessel forms. This activity and the active engagement with her work, elevate our experience of living, bringing joy, stillness, and a deeper appreciation for our surroundings.
