Publication Interview | Design Porn
-I feel strongly in what the creative mind can do, how the arenas of design, architecture, art and literature, can improve our lives, going beyond themselves into inspiration: the why before the what. This is what I do and what my website entails, going beyond soley what I do into what others do as well, and why we create. An informed and tethered layering of language, both of words and visuals, and how they together inspire our navigating the terrain of living.
-I do not define myself by any one category, but by my intention to inspire and inform, to bring joy and beauty to our everyday: tools for living, tools for building the future.
-I believe in supporting the creative endeavors of others, the makers, dreamers and doers. It is a matter of supporting the makers and enjoying what the maker has made. An umbrella of support and supported: to inspire and to be inspired. As a studio artist, my work is a colmination of all that I do: of language, expression and inspiration, where we’ve been, where we are, where we’re going and who we are.
-As an interior designer, I am interested in the emotion of a space. How it flows and its sustainability not only in materials but how it's effects last. I build spaces for my clients that are calm, nurturing, evocative and inspiring. My spaces usually tend towards the simplistic. I use little pattern and bright color leaving this for the art on the walls allowing for its importance in the space. Though simplistic these spaces are not void of warmth and meaning. They are minimal and meaningful. Our spaces should be purposeful in how they work for us, how they enhance our lives and assist in building our futures and memories, telling our stories and reflecting who we are as well as a the world we live in. I consider my design voice to be a world infused modern, bringing in art, cultures, nature and the handmade. Time also is an element. Layers of old and new add a healthy sense of being grounded and an excitement for the new.
-My interests lie squarely in the realms of language and inspiration. How the creative mind works, inspiring today and building bridges of change towards the future. To live fully, through the creative mind.
-Winston Churchill once said "We shape our homes and then our homes shape us." And too, we shape the world as the world shapes us.
