Time

“Whose to say why we are here, whose to say, but to cherish these days, mark them to memory, tucking moments behind the flesh.”

Time does not stop, there is no pause, only the winding forward that’s hopeful, engulfing till it leaves us behind: bones to the earth, energy back to the stars. Whose to say why we are here, whose to say, but to cherish these days, mark them to memory, tucking moments behind the flesh. To lose a loved one dulls the mind and slows the heart, to lose time often mimics. We cannot take time back, what we had this morning or late last night, nor can we keep the memories from spilling, spiraling to the moon, scattering.

If It Brings You Joy

“If it brings you joy, go there, run.”

If it brings you joy, go there, run.

We are living in very difficult times. I am tired of writing that but there it is, here we are and perhaps sadly, for awhile. I don’t like writing this nor do I like the way it makes me feel: frustrated, worried and even sad. My hope wanes. My good intentions seem to fade beneath the noise of media and my overactive brain that tries to keep me safe. I continually go back to what’s familiar, the traditions of family, the objects that I collect, my creative work, all the things that bring me joy.

“We are indeed the lucky ones, the sentient beings who know deep the benefits of beauty and the creative mind.”

There is a reason one hires a designer or why we support our local makers, simply for the joy they bring us and the joy we give to them. A win/win. If it brings you joy, go there, do that.

Throughout history, the hand created has been a staple in our society of cultures, it has answered the problem of utility, eased our bodies and inspired our minds through beauty. It is the creative mind that opens up doors and the creative hand that builds them. We are indeed fortunate to have the dexterity of the creative mind, to create and to build, inspire and to simply enjoy. We are all fortunate to have this at our disposal, to solve the problem of poverty and ease the ills of mind and body.

“We are, despite our difficulties, tied together by the creative mind, by our ability to create and solve: to see beauty and feel its truest splendor.”

Beauty has mysterious ways over us, it is in the details, the bigger picture of the world. All within the eye of the beholder. Beauty cares less of skin color and money, it does it’s thing whether we see it or not. Like a tree, it is what it is, does what it does. We are indeed the lucky ones, the sentient ones who know deep the benefits of beauty and the creative mind. We are, despite our difficulties, tied together by the creative mind, by our ability to create and solve: to see beauty and feel its truest splendor. We are indeed the lucky ones.

“It is through creative efforts that life expands, illuminated, celebrated and softened.”

In the infinite game of life, creativity is the arc, the ever flowing arrow with no target in sight. It is what gives us our longevity, what speaks to our desires and brings them to fruition, inspiring and easing the long road ahead. Creation is both life saving and life giving: goosebumps and awe. It is through creative efforts that life expands, illuminated, celebrated and softened. Creativity is the fingerprint of all that we see, utilize and desire. It is who we are, what we do and what we need.

If it brings you joy, go there, run.

This Is Life

“This is life, life worth living, paths that wind and turn.”

It is not with little effort that we move toward goals or change, where ripples are made and resolve becomes clearer. Sometimes it takes numerous hits to a wall, or decades to a lifetime of try and try again. This is life, life worth living, paths that wind and turn.

Kaleidoscopic Possibilities

“We are in the middle of so much challenge, uncertainty and even pain, what is in our control is the parameter for change and solace.”

We have the potential, each, to create the possibilities of change. From the darkness of yesterday comes the light of tomorrow if we so choose, if we keep moving, editing and asking questions. From the spiral down, comes the spiral up.

How we choose to work and live is paramount. What we bring to each arena, each table can spin the spiral up or further down. We don’t have control over everything, sometimes knowing this can make a big difference, simplifying the tasks before us, where we work, our homes and the future. We are in the middle of so much challenge, uncertainty and even pain, what is in our control is the parameter for change and solace.

“To live within the potential of beauty and possibility vacillates the future possible, giving rise to our potential and those around us.”

To be better is to live better, acknowledging our perfectly imperfect selves and the lives we wish to create. To surround oneself with beauty and all that inspires speaks to personal control and possibility, shining a light on the depths of who we are and all that we offer. To live within the potential of beauty and possibility vacillates the future possible, giving rise to our potential and those around us.

Essentially, what we bring to our lives is multifaceted, be it beauty, insight or knowledge: possibility in a kaleidoscope of colors.

"There are thousands of people out there with the same degree you have; when you get a job, there will be thousands of people doing what you want to do for a living. But you are the only person alive who has sole custody of your life. Your particular life. Your entire life. Not just your life at a desk, or your life on the bus, or in the car, or at the computer. Not just the life of your mind, but the life of your heart. Not just your bank account, but your soul.

People don’t talk about the soul very much anymore. It’s so much easier to write a résumé than to craft a spirit. But a résumé is cold comfort on a winter night, or when you’re sad, or broke, or lonely, or when you’ve gotten back the chest X ray and it doesn’t look so good, or when the doctor writes “prognosis, poor.”

... You cannot be really first-rate at your work if your work is all you are."
